first started playing bowls in 1981 at the age of 18 for Pendine Bowls Club playing in the Pembrokeshire League. He played there for six years before rugby took over. During his time there he played for Pembrokeshire Under-35s, won the Club pairs Championship, played for the Welsh Presidents. He also won the Yorkshire Cup at Tenby Bowls Club.

After a break of over 41 years he decided to pick the woods back up and joined Bridgend Municipal Bowls Club.
